Trouble Shooting

This section is provided to assist merchants in resolving common installation,
configuration, and program issues most frequently raised.
Installation:
  • The setup program can not browse to, or create the folder where Retail PC is to be installed.
    • Make sure the desired folder and parent folder’s attributes are NOT set to “hidden, system, or read only”.
    • Ensure the user is logged into the network for access to that drive.
    • Ensure the User has the appropriate privileges for FULL ACCESS to the desired folders and sub-folders.

Program Operation:
  • Error Message - Cannot Access <filename>.
    • The specified file in missing or corrupt.
    • Make sure the desired folder’s attributes are NOT set to “hidden, system, or read only”.
    • Ensure the User has the appropriate privileges for FULL ACCESS to the desired folders and subfolders.
    • If the file is a user configuration file (mci*.cnf). The user may need to be rebuilt if the Restore User procedure fails.
    • If the file is an external Mult Transaction file, it is likely there is a format error. Use the import file procedure under the MULT menu to import and validate the file. Or verify the file format to the specifications in the Users Manual.

  • Error Message - Cannot Open Comport
    • The port number setting under the Setup menu – Personal Computer Configuration is invalid or correct.
    • The port is already open/in use by another program. (Fax, Internet, RAS, etc…) Close or disable the other program and retry.
    • The resources for the port/device may be in use by another device. Resolve the hardware conflict or free the resources. (Port Addresses, IRQ’s etc...)

  • Error Message - Modem Reset Error
    • The modem returned an “Error” or no response for the AT&F “reset” command.
    • The port number setting under the Setup menu - Personal Computer Configuration may be invalid or incorrect.
    • The port is already open/in use by another program. (Fax, Internet, TAPI, RAS, etc…) Close or disable the other program and retry.
    • The resources for the port/device may be in use by another device. Resolve the hardware conflict or free the resources. (Port Addresses, IRQ’s etc…)

  • Error Message - Modem Init Error
    • The modem initialization string specified under the Setup Menu – Electronic Draft Capture is invalid or incorrect for your modem. Refer to your modem manual for correct initialization or clear this field.

  • Modem dials but does not connect or disconnects immediately.
    • The modem settings in windows may be limiting the Minimum Baud Rate for this comport to a rate higher than 1200 or 2400 baud. Verify through control panel the modem is permitted to connect at these speeds
      Call Global Payments Support for Alternate Dial-up Phone Numbers.
      Connexant Modem’s- It has been verified by many of the PC manufacturers using these modems in their PC’s that the V9.0 and V9.2 modems have problems with low speed connections and communications. If Global support cannot get you connected via alternate phone numbers and initialization, then please contact your PC manufacturer for updated drivers, patches or exchanges for these modems. (Connexant does not deal directly with the public.)

  • Modem dials, connects, then disconnects during processing
    • The modem may have attempted to incorrectly optimize the connection by enabling Fax or high speed communication options. Refer to you modem manual for the Initialization strings for the following modem settings:
      • Set to a Direct or Normal Asynchronous Mode.
      • Disable Data Compression
      • Disable Error Correction
      • Disable Speed Buffering
      • The corresponding commands will vary by modem manufacturer, model, etc. Also note that 1 AT command may implement more than 1 setting.
      • Windows XP Users can Run the MS System Infromation to look up the appropriate Init strings.
        • Click START, then Run, Type MSInfo32.exe
        • In the Info Viewer select Components, then Modems.
        • If available copy the “Compression Off”, “Error Correction Off”, and “Flow Control Off” settings into the Init String field of the EDC Setup screen in Retail @dvantage PC.
    • Imported transaction files containing invalid transaction formats can cause disconnects. Validate or review any imported data file formats.
    • Call-Waiting tones can cause disconnects on some modems. Disable Call Waiting. Contact your local phone company for available * options.
    • Other communication applications, dialers, etc… may be forcing the comport to close. Close any possible conflicting applications.

Global Payments Inc. is in the process of certifying versions 4.0c and 4.0e. These new versions will support Microsoft Windows VISTA and also include new features such as a SSL connectivity option, Native support for USB card readers, and maintain compliance with new Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards. Build 12 for Versions 3.4c & 3.4e have been Released as of January 1, 2009.
This new build adresses the New Double Receipt Truncation requirements, mandated by some states and also contains a few other minor bug fixes.

All New and Replacement orders will automaticallly receive the new build.
Existing merchants are not required to obtain the new build unless it is mandated in that merchant's state.
